Dear Residents, Families, and Friends,

Hope this finds all of you staying healthy and well!

Mother Marguerite is currently on retreat and will be back on Thursday evening. We will be welcoming another Sister, Sr. Mary Emilie, who will be coming to us from our Home in Denver. She arrives this coming Saturday.

We’ve had some people ask if we were having a Food Drive before Thanksgiving.  We are not.  Our Food Drive this year will be on December 17.  Stay tuned to our website https://www.littlesistersofthepoorsanfrancisco.org/) for the list of items we are in need of. And thank you in advance for your continued generosity!!!

Since the holidays are fast approaching we thought it was time to give another update on COVID-19.

As everyone probably knows (and is tired of hearing) we are now dealing with a triple threat of the flu, RSV and of course, the ever present COVID-19 viruses. We are happy to say that the majority of our Residents – both RCFE and SNF – recently received their flu shot and/or the booster which we hope will help to ward off these viruses and the serious effects they could suffer from them.

We wanted to share with you the latest directives from the Dept of Health which we will be following--- so here you go!

Visitors are no longer required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to have indoor visitation. Visitors must continue to comply with CDPH Masking Guidance while visiting in these indoor healthcare settings and should continue to maintain all current infection prevention practices to continue protecting these most vulnerable populations.

These are the new requirements for any visitor entering the facility, regardless of their vaccination status that must be followed:

  • All visitors must be screened for fever and COVID-19 symptoms and/or exposure within the prior 14 days to another person with COVID-19; if a visitor has COVID-19 symptoms or has been in close contact with a confirmed positive case, they must reschedule their visit, regardless of their vaccination status.
  • All visitors must wear a well-fitting face mask with good filtration (N95, KF94, KN95, or surgical masks are preferred over cloth face coverings) and perform hand hygiene upon entry and in all common areas in the facility;
  • If personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for contact with the resident due to COVID-19 positive isolation status (including fully vaccinated visitors), it must be donned and doffed according to instruction by HCP.
  • Facilities should limit visitor movement in the facility, regardless of the visitor's vaccination status; for example, visitors should not walk around the hallways of the facility and should go directly to and from the resident's room (for those residents on comfort care or who are bedridden) or designated visitation area (which is the mall/lobby on the ground floor). Outdoors is always ok except that it’s getting colder now.

Visitors who have tested positive for COVID-19 should not be permitted to visit or should be asked to leave if they are still within their isolation period (within 10 days of their positive test). Under such circumstances, facilities must offer alternatives for remote (Zoom, FaceTime, etc.) or telephone visitation. Staff should provide monitoring for those who may have difficulty adhering to core principles, such as children. Please remember to monitor and screen at home before deciding to come and visit.

Wait, there’s more! Residents taking social excursions outside the facility should be made aware of the potential risks of public settings and reminded to avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces. It doesn’t mean they can’t go out but they should be encouraged and assisted with masking (to protect themselves and others), physical distancing, and hand hygiene. If they are visiting friends or family in their homes, they should follow the masking and physical distancing recommendations for visiting with others in private settings as described in CDC Guidance on Minimizing the Impact of COVID-19 on Communities (Summary of Guidance for Minimizing the Impact of COVID-19 on Individual Persons, Communities, and Health Care Systems — United States, August 2022 | MMWR (cdc.gov))

Here's the link on what to do when exposed to Covid-19 if you should need it:  What to Do If You Are Exposed to COVID-19 (ca.gov)

This is the latest information we have to offer for visits here to the Home. Little changes such as not having to show your vaccine card are there but otherwise no major changes. A gentle reminder: please sign up ahead of time on-line on our website. Most of you are pretty good at it and it is much appreciated. It can be challenging when visitors just drop in. So, thanks for signing up ahead of time.

Once again, thank you for your understanding and may Our Lord bless you for all you do to help us care for your loved ones.San Francisco Update Nov 2022 Have a blessed Thanksgiving!!!

Sincerely in Christ,
Sr. Diane, lsp
