St. Joseph’s Home for the Holidays Wine Tasting
Thursday, November 11, 2010
St. Joseph’s Home Auditorium was transformed into a beautiful holiday bistro as over a hundred people gathered to sample 20 wines, compliments of our friends at Dobby’s Worldwide Liquors in Palatine. Many wine connoisseurs were on hand to answer questions and help everyone choose that ‘special wine’ to accompany any holiday menu. At the end of the evening, our smiling guests departed filled with good cheer, good food, and the assurance that their holiday wine supply is complete.
St. Jeanne Jugan, a Year Later
Monday, October 11, 2010
It’s hard to believe a year has gone by since we gathered in St. Peter’s Basilica, around our TV’s or on our computers to watch the canonization of our Mother Foundress, St. Jeanne Jugan. The St. Joseph choir joyfully sang in thanksgiving, as we celebrated a special Mass for the one year anniversary of the Canonization of St. Jeanne Jugan. Later that afternoon, pilgrims from St. Joseph’s home, who went to Rome, shared some memories.
Camp St. Joseph
Tuesday, September 28, 2010
A flickering (battery-operated) camp fire, a (not too scary) ghost story and delicious (microwaved) s’mores brought back many memories of camping trips long ago. Our auditorium became Camp St. Joseph! A mischievous raccoon sneaked a bag of chips from the trash, while the campers sang-around the campfire. The camp was filled with laughs as our Residents shared stories of their past camping escapades. After finishing with a gooey chocolate s’more, many of our campers were ready to go back to civilization for a good old fashion nap.
Welcome to the County Fair
Tuesday, August 24, 2010
In celebration of our Resident’s Feast Day, St. Joseph’s Home was transformed into a “good old” fashion county fair. The day started with made to order breakfasts, compliments of our wonderful volunteers. We celebrated together at Mass with the Resident choir filling the chapel with their angelic voices. Bishop McDonald gave a special blessing to the Residents. After lunch, the Residents played games, sang songs, enjoyed ice cream and a petting zoo. A blue ribbon table displayed many prized treasures made by our Residents. The day ended with a screening of the beloved classic movie “County Fair”.
A Pilgrimage to the National Shrine of St. Thérèse
Monday, June 30, 2010
On a beautiful June day, 15 Residents, Little Sisters, & volunteers went on a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of St. Thérèse in Darien, IL. They spent the afternoon enjoying the wonderful collection of relics, personal effects and memorabilia of St. Therese. There was time for prayer before the many statues and crucifixes. Before leaving they posed in front of the largest religious wood carving in the US. It intricately, depicts the life of St. Thérèse.
