“Flavors of the World”
A picture is worth a thousand words! On Monday, March 27, we had “Flavors of the World” to celebrate the many nationalities represented here at our St. Anne’s Home in San Francisco. It was a real treat.
Many of our Staff brought in their special dishes from all over: Thailand, Burma, Eritrea, Philippines, Ireland, China, and Russia. And of course, a few American dishes as well. Everyone was invited to enjoy and taste a little bit of each country.
Behind each table were posters with scenes of that specific country and some trinkets too. Making it extra special though were our three staff members who wore their traditional “costumes” for the occasion. The Residents were delighted with the whole afternoon. It was a great showing of the family spirit here and everyone made sure to taste at least a little bit of the “flavors of the world”.
We were very grateful too to our staff who brought in “their country’s” special dish and/or went to the trouble to prepare it for everyone. To make sure all the countries were represented, if not by special dishes or their costumes – there were tables outside the auditorium set up by two of our AJJs displaying dolls representing each country of the world.
The AJJs also helped serve the Residents while one of our Activity staff showed short videos up front on the big screen of many of the different countries. We were just as happy to have the chance to learn more about one another’s cultures and backgrounds as those who were eager to have the chance to share.
It was a wonderful afternoon and helped us appreciate our little family here at St. Anne’s even more.
