Ringing in the New Year at St. Anne’s
2019 arrived with great joy for our Residents. We began with a holy hour in the afternoon to thank God for all the graces and blessings received and to look forward to a new beginning! For our New Year’s Eve party we were blessed to be joined by San Francisco’s finest…firefighters, including the Fire Chief of San Francisco, Joanne Hayes-White, who will be retiring this coming year but who promised to return next New Year’s Eve. Having them come to our party has been a tradition for several years and one that the Residents (and everyone else) always really enjoys. At first we didn’t recognize them even though several of them had just visited us on Christmas Eve, minutes before our Christmas Eve Vigil Mass when one of our Residents decided to pull the fire alarm. Thankfully, there was no fire! But they looked much different all dressed up in their uniforms, without their fireproof jackets, hats and all of their gear!
We were also blessed to have the band Second Opinion, with us once again. This band has been entertaining at our party for 27 years now! So hard to believe! The leader of the band is David Kell who just happens to be married to our dietitian, Beverly Kell. Two of our Hospitality Interns from this past summer, Michelle and Melita, returned New Year’s Eve to help the Residents get ready and were able to stay for at least the beginning of the party, where everyone was treated to some very creative and delicious appetizers. The kitchen staff really outdid themselves. We also discovered that some of our staff and their families are very good dancers! So as you can tell our New Year is off to a great start!
